Because Sometimes You Want Clear Shaker Sides

So. Here's the thing. I had a vision. I made a sketch. It was going to be GREAT! It all started with this photo, but there was a problem.

This is the current inspiration photo from the Runway Inspired Challenge. As soon as I saw it, an idea popped into my head, so I grabbed my trusty Post-It notes and sketched out a card. I love the sketch and finally go to turn that vision into a reality last night. Only one problem. My vision had a shaker going across the front of the card. See those floral panels on her jacket? For some reason they screamed WINDOW to me, so my mind went to a shaker card. BUT...the design I had sketched sort of neglected to remember the fact that sequins will fall out if shakers don't have sides. My shaker didn't have sides.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

Yes, my friends, despite having not thought through the engineering quite as thoroughly as I perhaps should have in the sketching stage, I managed to maintain my original design idea and still have my shaker card. WHAT?! Yup. For reals, you guys. How did I complete these feat of awesomeness, you ask? Kool Tac Clear Foam Tape, my friends. To. The. Rescue. Yup. The sides are sealed with clear foam tape. Under the acetate. And you can barely see it. And I love that. And this card, you guys... THIS CARD!

I heat embossed the bottom panel with Wide stripes for a subtle bit of texture. The red stripe was inspired by the belt buckle in the photo, along with the stripes found throughout. I just really love how this all came together. It's one of my favorites, for sure! You can find my complete supply list below. From My Head TOMATOES!

It is raining. Not just a little. Actually, it's raining super tons of LOTS! It's a good 'ole Nor' Easter and I kinda wish I could cozy up with a good book all day, but, alas... BUT, the good news is that I have a super fun card to share with you today!

I LOVE this photo inspiration from the Runway Inspired Challenge! This is my first card inspired by it, but I PROMISE there will be another one. This one was inspired primarily by the colors, but I simply MUST create a card inspired by the bold, intriguing nature of this photo, as well, so watch for that. I said it out loud.... well, in type, anyway, so now I'm committed!

From My Head Tomatoes

Why, yes, I do love this stamp set! Actually, I love it from my head TOMATOES!!! HAHAHAHA! Oh, for the LOVE of all things punny!!!! For reals, you guys. Love it. I decided to keep the color scheme simple with the black and white and red. I didn't even want to add green to the stems, as it would take away from the graphic quality of the design, so I kept them white and I sorta love how that looks. I used a wide stripe stamp to add the line at the top of the card by stamping just on the edge to balance it out.

SERIOUSLY, thank you.

No. Seriously. For reals, though. I sort of kind of lots of LOVE this Seriously die from Lil' Inker Designs. LOVE. Seriously, though. AND, I also happen to love this wicked fun Beadwork stamp set from Altenew, sooo... I decided to play with them together! YAY! I am playing along with the Cynthia Rowley Runway Inspired Challenge, inspired by this fabulous photograph.

I particularly loved the linear feel of this inspiration photo along with the gold. Because, gold. I wanted to emphasize both of these pieces in my design, so I pulled out my Tsukineko Delicata ink and went to town with the Beadwork stamp set!

I love how this stamp set allows you to create your own pattern. I created a pattern that fit nicely on the white panel (Crafter's Companion Ultra Smooth White) and then trimmed a thin strip of black cardstock to enhance that linear feel. I stamped the 'thank you' portion of the sentiment with Tsukineko VersaFine in Onyx Black. I love the detail you get with sentiments stamped in VersaFine! I then added the die cut 'Seriously' and popped the panel up with foam tape.

Seriously Thank You (detail)

I am also linking this up to the CAS challenge over at Virginia's View Challenge! Have an awesome day, my friends!

Runway Rewind

So, you remember that one time, yesterday, when I posted my Runway Inspired Challenge card? Yeah, well, I have another one today. Dude. I TOLD you I loved that inspiration image! For reals, though.

Today's card uses basically the same sketch I used yesterday, only I moved the sentiment a bit, played with the colors, and used completely different mediums. So, in other words, it's the same, but different.

Here is a reminder of the inspiration picture just in case you were a slacker yesterday and didn't see my post yet. (Yeah, dude. I totes just called you out for that. I mean, seriously, it's not like you can't browse blogs while you watch the Emmy's. They are mostly boring, anyway. For reals.)

And here is what I created based on this wonderfully inspiring look!

Hello

I used some awesome stamps from Winnie & Walter and distress inks to get the watercolor look on these. I generally prefer to use watercolor paints over inks, but with these layering stamps, it was SO easy to use the inks for a great look!

Floral Hello (detail)

I added a touch of clear Wink of Stella to the banner and to the sentiment for just a bit of lovely shimmer. I just LOVE sparkle! I also used the same woodgrain paper that I used yesterday, from Carta Bella's Sew Lovely collection. This is a surprisingly useful paper pad to have around. I really like it, and I totally don't sew, dudes.

So, there you have it! Between yesterday and today two pretty different cards that are actually pretty much the same. Fun stuff, folks. Fun. Stuff. You can find a full list of supplies I used for this card below in the links.

Have a Happy!

I Need More Vellum in My Life

Seriously, though. This small 6x6 sheet of polka dotted embossed vellum came in a Simon Says Stamp Card Kit and I may or may not have hoarded it. Until now. And now I need more. Because I love it. And it makes me happy. K? K. Glad I shared that with you. Now... WHY do I love it? LOOK!

Happy Birthday

Ummm... because it helped me make this card and I love this card. Lots. It was so totally inspired by the Runway Inspired Challenge photo. The one below. I LOVE this inspiration photo. So much so, I actually created two cards based on it. I haven't photographed the other one yet, so that will come later, but I HAD to share this one with you! I've had these great flower dies in my stash for some time and I hadn't used them yet, so when I saw the inspiration, I KNEW I had to use them! I love them. Lots. I may or may not be in a rather lovey mood today. At least in terms of paper crafting goodness. Or so it seems.

Seriously, though. Isn't that awesome? Bring that dress up above the knee and I would so love it!!!! (That length sort of makes my legs look like tree trunks, so I avoid it. For reals, though. I have big calves and I cannot lie.)

Happy Birthday (detail)

I love the bright, bold florals combined with the woodgrain. Seriously, though. That's pretty awesome. For reals. Oh...and I used clear foam tape to adhere the vellum, placing it strategically behind the die cut elements. I love that stuff. For reals, though.

Anyway, I hope you have a fabulous day.

Have a Happy!

Oh, My Stars!

Happy Friday, folks!  I decided to jump in for the Runway Inspired Challenge this time around!  This is really one of my favorite challenges and I just don't get the opportunity to play very often, so I was excited to play along!

This is the inspiration photo that was provided.  My first instinct was to create something that had nothing to do with the dress, to be honest, but rather, that amazing turquoise and white background!  That one may still be to come, however, after receiving some new goodies from Simon Says Stamp the other day, I had to dive into them and ended up inspired by the dress, after all!

Oh, My Stars!

To create this look, I stamped a white panel with the Hero Arts Capture Prism background stamp and heat embossed it with clear powder.  I then used Mini Distress Inks in a variety of colors over the embossed image to create a colorful happiness!!!!  I then die cut the stars with the Lil' Inker Stitched Star dies.  I LOVE THESE DIES!  I die cut the stars from black cardstock to create the shadow and popped the colorful ones up on the shadow.  Then I added a few enamel dots and the sentiment from Lil' Inker Shiny Happy stamp set!  LOVE IT!

Oh My Stars!  (detail)

And with that, my friends, I wish you a HAPPY!
