Why and Such

Why is it that people look at you strange if you have candy, ice cream or soda for breakfast, but nobody says a word if you order the Xtra Xtra at Dunkin Donuts or the Vanilla White Chocolate triple shot machiato...whatever-thingy at Starbucks?

Why is BP dumb?

Why is the British Parliamentary system suddenly so freaking fascinating???

Why do I get more compliments on the bags that I get for free or for under a dollar than on my Coach clutch?

Why am I out of tea?

Why was my dog wandering around the house looking utterly confused this morning?

Why doesn't everyone keep a mini slinky on their desk?

Why do I go through Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer at home like it's freaking water, but I can manage to keep a tiny PocketBack bottle for months at work?

Why does the cheap kind of hand sanitizer clean my desk so amazingly well?

Why DON'T pigs fly? Life would be a little more fun if they did. Just say'n.

Why do we keep wild carnivorous animals with jaws strong enough to crush human bone in our homes and allow them to sleep in our beds? (Actually, I know the answer to that, but it's still fun to think about!)

Why are soda cans 12 oz.?

Why don't I live somewhere with a warm year-round climate?

Why is Glee only on once a week?

Why does it work for some and not for others?

Why do we do it?

Butterfly Wings ATC AND (yup, com'n at ya with extras today!) a couple of cute headbands!

***If you haven't seen it yet, I guest posted over at Everyday Bliss! Check it out!***

Just in case you hadn't yet caught on...I really love to make stuff! No, for reals. I do. I just get excited with each and every piece that I create. As you know, I like to play with all kinds of materials and complete finished projects of assorted varieties! It's so fun!!! I just love it!

SO...today I am going to share a couple of things I have created lately!

First, I created this Butterfly Wings ATC for the Vintage ATC swap over at SSS! I think I like the way it turned out. I had another plan, but I wasn't able to get the mold to do what I wanted to do, so I had to change my plan, but that's what drives these things, kwim?

Butterfly Wings ATC

The Butterfly wing is stamped with a Skipping Stones Design stamp on vellum with StazOn ink.

Butterfly Wing ATC Detail 2

I used watercolors and glimmer mist to add color to the background paper and the trim. The button is cut in half and adhered to the card.

Butterfly Wings ATC Detail 1

I stamped the image on the bottom after swashing the background with watercolors and then used twinkling H2O's to add just a bit of color. The crowns are cut from the Once Upon a Princess cartridge (I think) on my Cricut and then glittered with Martha Stewart glitter glue.

Butterfly Wings ATC side

I love that the butterfly is attached only at the body so that it can truly fly away!

I also made a couple of headbands this week! This first one is made from a t-shirt and some vintage buttons. (You know how much I love vintage buttons!!!!)

T-shirt and vintage button headband

I actually stitched the flowers this time so that they could be a bit more billowy and a bit messier than when I use adhesive. To create the band portion I just braided three strips of the fabric cut from the sleeves of the t-shirt. I really love this one!!!!

Prima Flowers + A headband equal CUTENESS!!!!!

This one, I have to be honest, I feel guilty even saying I 'made' it, as it is a total cheater headband! LOL! Those big fabulous flowers are straight from a Prima package! LOL! I just added them to the headband and WA-LA! But, seriously, folks. It's super freaking adorable. Just say'n! I do want to replicate these flowers, though, so I will probably be working on that eventually!

What did you think? Did you make something wicked crazy cool this week?

What's On Your Work Space Wednesday and Wordless (Not Gonna Happen) Wednesday!

Yup. It's that bad. 11 May 2010

Funny, they say a picture is worth a thousand words and this one TOTALLY says so much about my life right now. I can't even begin to put it into those actual words, but yes, my desk REALLY IS that messy, as is the studio surrounding it. I've been able to be fairly productive, but it's certainly a mess and I would so love to get it good and clean! I just seem to want to use every ounce of time I have in there to actually make stuff!

I have a confession to make.... I suck at making Patriotic Cards.

No, really, people. I do. For some reason it's just REALLY hard for me to do that whole red, white, and blue color combo and adding things like stars and flags just makes it harder. I don't know why, really. I like those colors. At least, I thought I did! HA! Red is actually my favorite color of them all and I have a ton of red supplies. White is a basic, so I have a lot of that, too. But, I discovered last night (yup...I totally ran this one to the last possible minute) that I have VERY little navy patterned paper. And what I did find had frogs or M&M's on it. Hmmm.....HA! I thought I liked blue, but I guess I'm just not attracted to it in the store. Maybe it would just be better for me to live in Canada or China or somewhere that lets me use just red and white!!! HA!

WELL, all that rambling is to say that I was a bit concerned when Heather from Skipping Stones Designs sent me a PATRIOTIC stamp set to showcase this month!

Really?

Really.

Ugh!

SO, that meant I had to put it off to the very last second (okay...so time sort of played a part in that, too, but still) until I got some brilliant idea. Right? Right. At least...we are going to go with that theory for now.

Happy 4th of July Card

SO....there you have it, folks!

And guess what?!

Shhh....don't tell anyone, but I think I actually LIKE IT!!! I altered this week's sketch just a little by making it a round scalloped card (something else that I never do because I generally don't like doing round cards) instead of a rectangle and I think it worked out WONDERFULLY!

4th of July Detail 2

I used patriotic stamps from Skipping Stones Design to stamp the flag and the '4th of July' parts of the card. I stapled a wonderful heavy ribbon onto the bottom as the foundation for my design. I LOVE that part!!!

4th of July Sentiment detail

I stamped the bottom portion of the sentiment onto crepe paper to add some texture.

4th of July Detail

All Images were stamped with Close To My Heart ink and the red distress ink is Ranger (Tim Holtz Distress ink). The base is cut from the A Child's Year cartridge for the Cricut. I LOVE THAT!!!!

So, there you have it! A patriotic card, made by me, that I actually like. What do you think? I know....many of you don't live in this country, but you can still like a card, right?

Check out what the other SSD Designers created, too!

Happy Mother's Day! (Okay...I'm a little late, but that's okay, I was late when I was born, too, so it works.)

What? I WAS!!! Two full weeks, actually. I was supposed to be a January baby, but, instead, I share my birthday with Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin. It works for me. I like February much better than January, anyway! HA!

Well, I can't show you the gift I made for my Mom yet because, umm....I didn't make it yet. I had some supply issues (as in ... I didn't have them) so she will be getting her gift a bit later, but I am super excited about it, so I PROMISE to show you as soon as I finish it! SO CUTE!!!

I DID, however, manage to get her card made!

Happy Mother's Day Card

What better day to play with fabric flowers than MOTHER'S DAY???!!! I created this one with two different fabrics. A pretty white, grey, and purple patterned fabric strip is used for the center, and a lovely lavender is used for the rest. I love it!

Fabric Flower on Mother's Day Card

I used my Cricut (Calligraphy Collection Cartridge) to cut the sentiment and added some Stickles for a bit of sparkle! The cut got a bit lost on the text background paper, so I inked the paper a bit to darken it and I love how it made the sentiment really pop!

Happy Mother's Day sentiment

And the best part? She liked it!!! It is so wonderful to have some people in my life who really appreciate the handmade cards that I create for them!
