What's On Your Workspace Wednesday - Two dolls and a Giant Gaping HOLE!

WOYWW 16 June 2010

Well, there you have it.  My desk.  It's back to being it's usual mess.  Although, this shot shows the GIANT GAPING HOLE in the background where my iMac belongs!  HA!  Where is it, you ask?  Oh...it's in the living room.  Some people have laptops and other people just casually pick up their 24 inch iMac and carry it into the living room.  Totally normal.

Riiiiiiiiiiight.   HA!

No, The Hubbums needed to do a giant slide show project in iMovie with hundreds of photos and his laptop, while it is an awesome laptop, doesn't quite have the processing power to do that sort of thing in a reasonable amount of time.  Thus...the relocation of my machine for a temporary period of time. It's not back yet.  We've been busy.  Just say'n.  LOL!

However, that DID mean that I could sit on the couch, watch Hulu, and do my stitching last night quite comfortably!  LOL!   I worked on one of the dolls that you see there on the table and I made a super ctue headband that never made it to the desk and it totally in my hair!  I'll show you that tomorrow!  Yay!!!!

Anyway, have a super happy Wednesday!!!  I'll try to get my Wordless Wednesday post up soon, too!

So, Have I Ever Mentioned My Fondness for the Color Red?

'Cause I kinda super really love it. For reals. Lots. Just say'n.

SOOOOOO....that being said, this card was kinda super really tons of fun to make!

It started with this amazing sketch by the fabulous Teri Anderson!

I love this sketch.  It is so well balanced and I had so many ideas when I saw it!  FUN STUFF!!!

I chose to use the Dandelion Dreams set from Skipping Stones Design.  This is a great set because it is super versatile!  I love it!  I combined it with Making Memories papers and Prima Flowers.  To create the lines on the top and left side of the card I embossed them and then sanded them for a really neat effect.

I used the seriously amazing Tombow Glue Pen to add the glitter around the circle and around the stamped sentiment label.  It gives you an amazing fine line!  I LOVE IT!

More to come on that, I PROMISE!!!

Also, tomorrow I have a super fun card to share with you for SSD Tuesday AND I have a super fantastic amazing giveaway in the works for Friday!!!! So seriously, some fun stuff coming up!

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday!!! Oh...and no, I didn't make any doll progress over the weekend, but that's okay because I spent time with The Hubbums, so it's worth it. Have a Happy MONDAY!!!!

Some Weeks Are Like That.... Even in Australia.

If that title makes no sense to you...go HERE and buy this book. Everyone should own it. Just say'n.

So, this week has had some interesting moments.

Really.

It has.

Let's, see. I dropped my key badge into the toilet. Yup. Cute little FABRIC fob and all. Yes. That is in the trash now. Just say'n.

I accidentally wore a rather essential piece of clothing inside out and didn't figure it out until I was at work the other day. By essential...I don't mean my shirt. Just say'n.

I had to pee in a cup and hand it to a very nice lady. I know it's her job, but it's still awkward. Just say'n.

I had my cubicle officially claimed by coworker. I'm not leaving the company, just the department. It's a promotion of sorts, but I struggle just a WEE bit with change so it's a little weird. Just say'n.

I have paper box on my desk ready to be packed with stuff to move over to the other building. It's like they do it on tv. I've never done that before. Just say'n.

I made 4 dozen cupcakes for The Hubbums to take to a lunch potluck at school yesterday. They were a hit. I only got one. I should have tasted them earlier. They needed more chili powder. Just say'n.

Then again, he said they loved them, so I'll just keep that last bit to myself. ....well....myself and all of the interwebs and such. Just say'n.

I have created exactly nothing since Sunday. That sucks. Just say'n.

When The Hubbums woke me up this morning I promptly informed him that it was Saturday. *sigh* It's Friday. Sad Day. Just say'n.

BUT, all that being said, it hasn't actually been what I would call a bad week. Just a strange one. With rather amusing side notes. I did, however, accomplish my goal of teaching myself how to do basic crochet before next week! You see, I have to go into Boston for an event for work next week and I plan to take the train and I have ALWAYS wanted to sit on the train and either knit or crochet, so I was bound and determined to learn how to do it for this trip! HA! It's only like an hour on the train, but I just love the idea of a commute that allows me to craft while in motion! I drive an hour back (and forth - 120 miles round trip) to work everyday, so this is actually a bit of a treat for me! I'm looking forward to it!

This is all I've done, but I have the general motion down now, so I can keep it up. I just need to learn how to read a pattern and count stitches now! Then I will be good to go!

As for now...well, know any snakes that need a cute scarf? Just say'n.

Have a Happy Friday!  And...if you feel the sudden urge to buy me this necklace....I won't be offended.  Just say'n.  ;-)

A Doll in Progress: The Inner Makings of .... okay...so maybe I shouldn't write documentary titles. Just say'n.

Well, I will be honest. This week has been a bit on the crazy busy side so I don't have a new completed project to show you today, BUT, I did work on some stuff recently, so I want to show you!!!! The photos in today's post will carry you through the steps of the doll I am currently making. The funny thing is...I've not done one this way before, so you will not be seeing the work of an expert, but rather that of a student of sorts, learning as I go. What you will NOT see, however, is the completed doll. WHY? You ask. Well, two reasons, really. A.) I'm saving that for a special post later this month. 2.) The completed doll doesn't actually exist yet. Just say'n. HA!

Step 1: Make a ball out of some recycled material. I don't care what you use. I used plastic bags and covered them with masking tape. Many use foil, but I prefer to recycle. Stick that ball on the top of a lolly pop stick. Congratulations. You have a Dolly Pop.

Step 1

Step 1 (full)

Step 2: Add twisted wire around the stick to create limbs.

Step 2

Step 3: Set Dolly Pop with Limbs up on a cute flower frog for a photo shoot. Why? Because it's FREAKING HILARIOUS. THAT'S WHY, SILLY!!! HA!!!!

Step 3

Step 4: Wrap batting around the body portion of the dolly pop. This will give him some girth and keep him warm while you dilly dally and leave him sitting on your desk for a good week or two before completing him. Just say'n. I tied some string around a couple of areas for a bit of definition. Which is amusing because I have no idea how I am going to cover that part yet. It may be fabric, it may be more paper clay. I don't even know. Inspiration will hit.

Right?

Step 4

Step 5: FUN PART!!!! Sculpt the limbs and the head around the armature that you have built with paper clay. (Yes, that's that neat thing that we created in steps 1-3. I didn't want to scare you with official words and stuff. HA! TOTALLY KIDDING.) I haven't sculpted over wire limbs with paper clay yet, so this was an adventure, but I enjoyed it and I love that he is so posed! (Yup. I've created a Poser. Just say'n.)

Step 5

Step 6: Use small pieces of paper clay to sculpt the facial features. Have fun with this part! You can do so much to give your doll personality! And yes, I did clean this up a bit. This is, after all, and in progress documentation.

Step 6

Step 7: ACCESSORIZE!!!!

Accessorize!

Yes, I know the hat is cracked and uneven. Yes. I did that on purpose. All will be clear, my dears. All. will. be. clear.

BUT...not today!!! That's all for now! I hope you enjoyed this little foray into my head while creating and I look forward to showing you the completed doll soon! Have a super fabulous Thursday! And leave a comment! They make me happy!!!!
