*YIKES!* The stinking thing is COVERED with spiders! *sigh* That's because I love Halloween. Yes. I love Halloween, but I hate spiders. Spiders are often associated with Halloween, as MOST people hate them...and they add to the general scariness of it all.
*sidenote* I looked up the spider associate, actually, and found that it was introduced much later than we like to think and is genuinely based on the fear factor. Arachnophobia is one of the most common phobias in the human race and it is the PRIMARY reason spiders are associated with Halloween. I find that interesting. At least it isn't clowns. I REALLY HATE CLOWNS. And heights.
WAIT JUST A MINUTE! Isn't public speaking considered the MOST common human fear? If that is the case, maybe we should just make everyone give speeches every Halloween! HA!!!!! (That is one I don't have, oddly enough, so I'd be okay with that!) What scares YOU to death????
Anyway, back to my spider piece. It is made entirely with supplies from the every fabulous Retro Cafe Art Gallery! I used the Spider Web Halloween cut outs, the Steampunk Parts digital collage sheet (also available in printed form), Tim Holtz corked vials, some black glitter, and diamond glaze. I coated the cut piece from the collage sheet with diamond glaze and then inserted it and used the end of a paint brush to smooth it against the glass. I then brushed the adhesive all around the inside and covered it with glitter and adhered the entire thing to the web with spiders. *I hate spiders. Just say'n.*
I also made this fun little card!
The image is another adorable cut from a digital collage sheet, the Halloween Dollies sheet, actually! I added it to some Core'dinations cardstock that I sanded. I cut the framed label with my Art Philosophy cartridge and then stamped the sentiment with a fun Samantha Walker for Unity Halloween stamp from the Bones About Halloween set! That fabulous ribbon is, of course, May Arts, and I added a little witch hat cutout, coated in glitter, from Retro Art Cafe to top it off!
I am linking my card up to the My Time to Craft Orange and Black challenge!
So. I hope you have a super stupendous Thursday! I shall see you all soon!!! Don't forget to leave a comment so I can stop by your blog and say HI!
Adorable!!! Really sweet kewpie doll!!
ReplyDeleteIt seems there are SO many spiders around lately, too!! They are getting ready for Halloween, and coming to GET YOU!!!! BWAH HA HA... Naw, just foolin'. They're all after MY happy butt.
I like this project!!!
Very cute! And I agree about the spiders!
ReplyDeleteBrrrrr!! I so hate spiders myself BUT that didn't stop me from decorating with them yesterday as per the Chazman's request. Now...not that I'm afraid of the plastic ones that I have hanging about on faux webbing but what IF a real one decides to join in the fun. Not sure I could handle that or could the decorations as I'm tackling it with my shoe..hehe
ReplyDeleteI really love both of this pieces J...you did a SPOOKTACULAR job on both of them. I adore the card (love the babydoll) but I really really REALLY like the little glass vial. Did I mention "REALLY" like!!
I'm hoping to get my decorations posted today if my camera batteries will stop dying on me. Hmmmm, wonder what that means? BOO!!!
Hugs,
Regi
I don't.. DO NOT....like public speaking...that's my biggest fear (and I use to be a safety director for a 150 person company that HAD to speak in front of them all)today all my talk is from wayyy to much caffine...LOL
My son FREAKS over spiders. Me, I spent the first couple years of his life carefully learning to pick up the disgusting things so I wouldn't teach him to be afraid. THat worked out well.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of clowns, or heights. Or the dark, actually.
But spiders? They're ok. They eat mosquitoes, and that takes them pretty far in my book.
And the glittery spider vial - creepy, but in a very pretty way. If that makes sense :)
How scary fun is your spider project? Loving that jar with the numbers on it, so, so much! Then your card, that little doll is adorable! She looks perfect on the core'dinations cardstock, love that stuff!
ReplyDeleteCreepy crawlies ~ eke! Glad you were able to overcome your phobia to make these cuties:)
ReplyDelete~Cindy
Fears are terrible aren't they? I have the most irrational fear of frogs, I cannot even look at them in a magazine or on the television.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, your Hallowe'en art is just so cute, yes, even the spider!!
Wishes
Lynne
I don't like spiders either, but the cards are great. And those little beasties do belong to Halloween, as you say....Valerie
ReplyDeleteLove the card with the kewpie doll!
ReplyDeleteI hate spiders too! Awesome work!! :)

ReplyDeleteI will be checking out your image link that little kewpie doll is so cute! Hugs..
Very cute!! Great card! I'm with you on the whole spider thing...matter of fact so are my girls...but we all love Halloween!!
ReplyDeleteBoth are spooky fun cards! Terrible fear of heights here, which keeps me from doing many things!
ReplyDeleteLLLoooove both of your pieces!!! The spider piece would make an adorable place setting at a Halloween Dinner :). Personalized with everyone's name. And of course LOVE the card. Love that sweet dollie. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI would rather spend time with Freddie Kruger than encounter a spider!
ReplyDeleteUm, yeah! One of my favorites yet!! I love love love this (and love Retro Cafe Art images - she is so sweet ;) xoxo
ReplyDeleteGorgeous creation! I'm not big on spiders either... imagine how I felt when I discovered my fabulous new boyfriend kept tarantulas. Must be love as he is now my hubby: both he and the spiders moved to my house 10 years ago, and totally freaked out my cats, Jo x
ReplyDeleteI don't mind spiders too much. Both my grown kids scream like girly girls when they see one - and one of my kids is a boy!
ReplyDeleteYour creations are adorable as always. I've been super busy moving but I have been lurking.
XOXOX
Two super Halloween cards. Thanks for sharing with us at MTTC this week.
ReplyDeletePat xx
just love your halloween creations, I am also scared of spiders but they are a must when it comes to Halloween decorations, cobwebs just look so spooky! I don't like clowns either!
ReplyDeletehave a great day, Debxx
Your kewpie doll card is sooo cute, and I hate spiders, too!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY! I tried earlier to leave a comment but it wouldn't work. Wanted to say I love your sweet lil' card & ... I LOVE spiders! No, REALLY! I even love Tarantulas. I wouldn't touch a Brown Recluse, a Black Widow, or any other spider I KNEW could be potentially deadly, but any other 'spidy' is welcome. My housemate DOESN'T share my affection. LOL! What creeps ME out? ANYTHING in the lizard family and - while they don't 'creep me out', BIG dogs terrify me. But you know what I absolutely love? YOU, YOU, YOU!
ReplyDeleteperfect halloween creations, love your doll card ... not so sure about the spiders (lol)
ReplyDeleteCute projects!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on hating spiders...but for me clowns are WAY worse!
LOL! I'm afraid of spiders and I saw a great big one today and SMOOSHED IT!
ReplyDeleteI don't like spiders either, but that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool card.
ReplyDeleteLove her dress :)
Spiders are creepy...but they do make for great story telling and scary art works to celebrate Halloween! Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
